Miksi tämä vaihtoehto

Valitse se, jos

Balances your priorities with a 2666€ price tag and a 34W idle draw.

Mistä se tinkii

Not specialized: it does not push any single dimension (value, silence, expansion) to the extreme.

Miten osat valittiin

Intel Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus: 18 cores / 18 threads covers the 8 cores needed with headroom. (2.3× needed — chosen for future expansion)
Motherboard Intel Z890 (LGA 1851): matches the CPU socket and case size.
RAM: 32GB DDR5 — meets the 32GB the workload requires.

Miksi eivät muut

Smart build — best all-round beats "Value build — most for your money" on performance +20, value -6, efficiency +6, expandability +5, silence +23, longevity +11 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Tulevaisuudenkestävyyspisteet

Vahva tulevaisuudenkestävyys

74/100

Strong future-proofing (74/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.

Upgrade path75

DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.

Expansion100

Expansion headroom: 3 PCIe slot(s), 5 M.2, 1 SATA, 2 drive bay(s), 0 RAM slot(s) free.

Storage growth70

Storage is 72% utilized with 2 free drive bay(s) and 1 free SATA port(s).

Memory growth20

0 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 100% utilized.

Networking95

Networking is 10000 Mbps, and a free PCIe slot can add a faster NIC later.

Replacement ease90

ATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.

Workload change70

No GPU, but there is room (3 PCIe slot(s), PSU headroom 5.6x) to add one for AI/transcoding.

Homelab Risk Score

Matala riski

10/100

Low risk (10/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.

low

Single point of failure

Storage has redundancy (parity1) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Ratkaisu: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.

low

Storage risk

5 NAS-rated hard drive(s) — rated for 24/7 operation.Ratkaisu: Keep drives cool and monitor SMART health.

low

Data loss risk

Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Ratkaisu: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.

low

Power risk

PSU is 1000W, peak load 180W (18%).Ratkaisu: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.

low

Network risk

Single 10000 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 10000 Mbps.Ratkaisu: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.

low

Expansion risk

3 PCIe, 5 M.2, 1 SATA, 2 bays free.Ratkaisu: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.

low

Upgrade risk

2026 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Ratkaisu: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.

Buildin lopullinen tarkistus

Audit passed (0 critical, 0 warning) — mostly optional and future considerations remain.

Valinnainen

Add a UPS

An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Toimenpide: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power

Valinnainen

Keep a backup off-box

Redundancy inside the box does not survive fire, theft or a whole-array fault.Toimenpide: Mirror the important data to an external drive, a second box, or cloud.storage

Tulevaisuus

Drive bays remain

2 drive bay(s) free for future capacity.Toimenpide: Expand capacity in pairs (mirror/parity) when needed.storage

Tulevaisuus

PCIe slot available

3 free PCIe slot(s) for a NIC, HBA or GPU later.Toimenpide: Use it for a 10G NIC, extra HBA, or an accelerator when the need appears.expansion

Mikä muuttuu rajaksi

RAM is maxed out is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.

1-2y

RAM is maxed out

Miksi: All RAM slots are used and the workload already sits at 100% — the next memory need means replacing kits or a new build.Mitä tehdä: Buy a single larger kit now, or plan the RAM for the full lifecycle.

3-5y

Storage growing

Miksi: 72% of capacity in use — comfortable today, tighter over a few years.Mitä tehdä: Plan the growth curve; keep at least one bay free for the next drive.
