Pourquoi cette variante

Choisissez-la si

Balances your priorities with a 2437€ price tag and a 61W idle draw.

Ce qu'elle sacrifie

Not specialized: it does not push any single dimension (value, silence, expansion) to the extreme.

Comment les pièces ont été choisies

AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT: 8 cores / 16 threads covers the 7 cores needed with headroom.
Motherboard AMD B550 (AM4): matches the CPU socket and case size.
RAM: 32GB DDR4 — meets the 32GB the workload requires.

Pourquoi pas les autres

Smart build — best all-round beats "Value build — most for your money" on value -6, efficiency -10, expandability +39, silence +23, longevity +14 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Score de pérennité

Pérennité solide

82/100

Strong future-proofing (82/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.

Upgrade path75

DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.

Expansion100

Expansion headroom: 0 PCIe slot(s), 1 M.2, 60 SATA, 6 drive bay(s), 2 RAM slot(s) free.

Storage growth90

Storage is 72% utilized with 6 free drive bay(s) and 60 free SATA port(s).

Memory growth75

2 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 100% utilized.

Networking80

Networking is 2500 Mbps.

Replacement ease90

ATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.

Workload change65

A 8GB GPU is present — AI and transcoding workloads are covered.

Score de risque homelab

Risque faible

10/100

Low risk (10/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.

low

Single point of failure

Storage has redundancy (mirror) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Solution: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.

low

Storage risk

4 NAS-rated hard drive(s) — rated for 24/7 operation.Solution: Keep drives cool and monitor SMART health.

low

Data loss risk

Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Solution: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.

low

Power risk

PSU is 750W, peak load 300W (40%).Solution: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.

low

Network risk

Single 2500 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 2500 Mbps.Solution: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.

low

Expansion risk

0 PCIe, 1 M.2, 60 SATA, 6 bays free.Solution: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.

low

Upgrade risk

2024 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Solution: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.

Audit final du build

Audit passed (0 critical, 0 warning) — mostly optional and future considerations remain.

2 Optionnel2 Futur

Optionnel

Add a UPS

An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Action: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power

Optionnel

Keep a backup off-box

Redundancy inside the box does not survive fire, theft or a whole-array fault.Action: Mirror the important data to an external drive, a second box, or cloud.storage

Futur

RAM expansion available

2 RAM slot(s) free for a later upgrade.Action: Leave them free until the workload actually grows.memory

Futur

Drive bays remain

6 drive bay(s) free for future capacity.Action: Expand capacity in pairs (mirror/parity) when needed.storage

Ce qui devient la limite

RAM is tight is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.

1-2y

RAM is tight

Pourquoi: Memory is 100% utilized — a growing workload will hit the ceiling quickly.Que faire: Add the remaining RAM before prices change, while slots are free.

1-2y

CPU is the next bottleneck

Pourquoi: The CPU runs at 88% of capacity — new services or more users will hit the wall first.Que faire: Consider a stronger CPU within the same socket generation while it is still cheap.

3-5y

Storage growing

Pourquoi: 72% of capacity in use — comfortable today, tighter over a few years.Que faire: Plan the growth curve; keep at least one bay free for the next drive.
