Perché questa variante
Sceglila se
3 free drive bay(s), 3 free PCIe slot(s) and 2 free RAM slot(s) keep the upgrade path open for years.
Cosa sacrifica
- Higher upfront cost today — you pay for expansion capacity before you need it.
Come sono stati scelti i componenti
- Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus: 18 cores / 18 threads covers the 8 cores needed with headroom. (2.3× needed — chosen for future expansion)
- Motherboard Intel Z890 (LGA 1851): matches the CPU socket and case size.
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 — meets the 32GB the workload requires.
Perché non le altre
- Long-term build — expandable & future-proof beats "Smart build — best all-round" on performance +28, expandability -11, longevity +12 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Punteggio di solidità futura
Solidità futura solida82/100
Strong future-proofing (82/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.
Upgrade path75
DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.
Expansion100
Expansion headroom: 3 PCIe slot(s), 3 M.2, 1 SATA, 3 drive bay(s), 2 RAM slot(s) free.
Storage growth70
Storage is 84% utilized with 3 free drive bay(s) and 1 free SATA port(s).
Memory growth75
2 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 100% utilized.
Networking95
Networking is 10000 Mbps, and a free PCIe slot can add a faster NIC later.
Replacement ease90
ATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.
Workload change70
No GPU (the iGPU handles transcoding), but there is room (3 PCIe slot(s), PSU headroom 3.3x) to add one for AI.
Homelab Risk Score
Rischio basso10/100
Low risk (10/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.
low
Single point of failure
Storage has redundancy (parity1) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Soluzione: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.
low
Storage risk
7 NAS-rated hard drive(s) — rated for 24/7 operation.Soluzione: Keep drives cool and monitor SMART health.
low
Data loss risk
Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Soluzione: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.
low
Power risk
PSU is 650W, peak load 200W (31%).Soluzione: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.
low
Network risk
Single 10000 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 10000 Mbps.Soluzione: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.
low
Expansion risk
3 PCIe, 3 M.2, 1 SATA, 3 bays free.Soluzione: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.
low
Upgrade risk
2026 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Soluzione: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.
Audit finale del build
Audit passed (0 critical, 0 warning) — mostly optional and future considerations remain.
2 Opzionale3 Futuro
Opzionale
Add a UPS
An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Azione: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power
Opzionale
Keep a backup off-box
Redundancy inside the box does not survive fire, theft or a whole-array fault.Azione: Mirror the important data to an external drive, a second box, or cloud.storage
Futuro
RAM expansion available
2 RAM slot(s) free for a later upgrade.Azione: Leave them free until the workload actually grows.memory
Futuro
Drive bays remain
3 drive bay(s) free for future capacity.Azione: Expand capacity in pairs (mirror/parity) when needed.storage
Futuro
PCIe slot available
3 free PCIe slot(s) for a NIC, HBA or GPU later.Azione: Use it for a 10G NIC, extra HBA, or an accelerator when the need appears.expansion
Cosa diventa il limite
RAM is tight is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.
1-2y
RAM is tight
Perché: Memory is 100% utilized — a growing workload will hit the ceiling quickly.Cosa fare: Add the remaining RAM before prices change, while slots are free.
1-2y
Storage nearly full
Perché: 84% of raw capacity is already in use — media libraries and backups grow fast.Cosa fare: Expanding is easy: add a drive to the free bays/ports.
Cosa ti limiterà per primo
RAM is the closest to its limit (100% of capacity in use) — it will likely force the next upgrade.
