Perché questa variante

Sceglila se

Balances your priorities with a 2260€ price tag and a 50W idle draw.

Cosa sacrifica

Not specialized: it does not push any single dimension (value, silence, expansion) to the extreme.

Come sono stati scelti i componenti

Intel Core i5 14400F: 10 cores / 16 threads covers the 7 cores needed with headroom.
Motherboard Intel B760 (LGA 1700): matches the CPU socket and case size.
RAM: 32GB DDR5,DDR4 — meets the 32GB the workload requires.

Perché non le altre

Smart build — best all-round beats "Value build — most for your money" on performance +9, expandability +25 — that is why it is recommended for your priorities.

Punteggio di solidità futura

Solidità futura solida

75/100

Strong future-proofing (75/100) — this build should stay relevant for years without major surgery.

Upgrade path75

DIY build — the CPU, motherboard and PSU can each be upgraded independently without replacing the whole system.

Expansion100

Expansion headroom: 2 PCIe slot(s), 6 M.2, 0 SATA, 0 drive bay(s), 2 RAM slot(s) free.

Storage growth20

Storage is 72% utilized with 0 free drive bay(s) and 0 free SATA port(s).

Memory growth75

2 RAM slot(s) free; memory is 100% utilized.

Networking80

Networking is 2500 Mbps, and a free PCIe slot can add a faster NIC later.

Replacement ease90

ATX form factor with standard, socketed components — most parts are easy to replace.

Workload change85

A 12GB GPU is present — AI and transcoding workloads are covered.

Homelab Risk Score

Rischio basso

10/100

Low risk (10/100) — sensible redundancy and headroom; no single point of failure is exposed.

low

Single point of failure

Storage has redundancy (mirror) — a single drive failure does not take the array down.Soluzione: Continue a 3-2-1 backup strategy; redundancy is not a backup.

low

Storage risk

4 NAS-rated hard drive(s) — rated for 24/7 operation.Soluzione: Keep drives cool and monitor SMART health.

low

Data loss risk

Redundancy protects against drive failure, though it is not a substitute for backups.Soluzione: Follow a 3-2-1 backup rule: at least one copy off the box.

low

Power risk

PSU is 650W, peak load 365W (56%).Soluzione: PSU sizing leaves healthy headroom for spikes and future parts.

low

Network risk

Single 2500 Mbps NIC — a switch/port failure takes the box fully offline, and multi-user media can saturate 2500 Mbps.Soluzione: Consider a second NIC or a managed switch; for heavy media, plan for 2.5/10G before the build.

low

Expansion risk

2 PCIe, 6 M.2, 0 SATA, 0 bays free.Soluzione: Healthy room for future drives, NICs and accelerators.

low

Upgrade risk

2024 platform — current generation with a forward-looking socket/feature set.Soluzione: Buy for the workload, not the socket — upgrade paths are a bonus, not a guarantee.

Audit finale del build

Audit passed (0 critical, 0 warning) — mostly optional and future considerations remain.

2 Opzionale2 Futuro

Opzionale

Add a UPS

An always-on server holding data should survive power blips.Azione: Add a line-interactive UPS sized for the build's peak draw (≥ 10 min at typical load for a clean shutdown).power

Opzionale

Keep a backup off-box

Redundancy inside the box does not survive fire, theft or a whole-array fault.Azione: Mirror the important data to an external drive, a second box, or cloud.storage

Futuro

RAM expansion available

2 RAM slot(s) free for a later upgrade.Azione: Leave them free until the workload actually grows.memory

Futuro

PCIe slot available

2 free PCIe slot(s) for a NIC, HBA or GPU later.Azione: Use it for a 10G NIC, extra HBA, or an accelerator when the need appears.expansion

Cosa diventa il limite

RAM is tight is the most likely thing to date this build within 1-2y.

1-2y

RAM is tight

Perché: Memory is 100% utilized — a growing workload will hit the ceiling quickly.Cosa fare: Add the remaining RAM before prices change, while slots are free.

3-5y

Storage growing

Perché: 72% of capacity in use — comfortable today, tighter over a few years.Cosa fare: Plan the growth curve; keep at least one bay free for the next drive.
